If you are looking for a site for unsigned artists to be in control of their music then you should Check out MyMusicSite.com. MyMusicSite.com is an online music community helping independent artist sell and promote there music and giving them a vehicle to sell downloads and ringtones. We are currently looking for all artists and producers to join our site.

We would love to have your music on the site. If you do create an artist profile page, we can possibly add you onto our scrolling banner on our homepage.

You would just have to let me know once you have signed up and from there I will be able to provide you with the information on how to become one of our featured artists and/or Top 5 artists.

We've been doing tons of publicity and promotions for the site so it will give you a lot of exposure and visibility. You can check us out in: CMJ's New Music Report, ASCAP's Playback Magazine, Music Registry and Publishers Registry and Indie-Bible's 10th edition.

Also, we are now offering all artists on the site the ability to sell their music on iTunes. If you are interested, please feel free to contact: dareyna@mymusicsite.com

Check the site out:

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Thanks,
Dareyna

Fred -- thanks for the clarification. It doesn't seem like there's much money flowing from last.fm, and at least the unsigned artists are getting roughly the same rates as artists on the majors. Clearly, the rate is not revolutionary, and we shouldn't applaud anybody who sticks to the mild profit sharing we are used to between artists and those that make money of their music.

"as Last.fm already pays royalties to signed acts via SoundExchange."

This is largely untrue. Last-fm has struck direct dieals with the major labels which allow them to bypass SoundExchange. Those license fees go direct to the labels.

You figure out how much of that money the artists see. It will be about as much as the "unsigned" artists see from this new gambit.
