I think the big boys and girls, aka the celebrities, have come to realize that promotion and marketing have changed -- fans/consumers are sick of the traditional method that puts a barrier between them and the artists they love. Fans want something new, and since technology now allows it, they want to experience art in new ways. Enter, modern fan engagement, which centers around collaboration. I mean, what better way to get your fans to care about your work than to get them involved by collaborating with them?
